The ancient Japanese art of kintsugi — which repairs broken ceramics with gold to make them stronger and more beautiful — has become a powerful metaphor for self-development. Translating literally as “golden joinery”, this beautiful concept from is now considered an important art form, but also one that teaches us to embrace the beauty in our imperfections. Repair after adversity is like therapy.
“Dating back to the 1400s, it was thought to be the invention of Japanese shōgun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, who charged his craftsmen with finding a more thoughtful, aesthetically pleasing way of fixing a broken tea bowl, rather than the traditional method of using ugly metal staples. Using precious metals… (drew) attention to, rather than away from, the breaks, which in turn had the effect of making the break the most important part of the piece itself.” - ref.

she-ra is still so so funny to me like. as a concept

dreamworks/netflix/mattel: ok mr. stevenson, we’d like this reboot to be a fun kids show with a good story for the whole family and lots of nostalgia to bring in revenue for the franchise etc. sound good?

nate stevenson, planning a story in his head where pop culture icon & beloved 80s childrens hero She-Ra is a brainwashed christian imperialist soldier who has a sexuality crisis over her gay arch enemy for 5 seasons then kills god by kissing her: mhm yes absolutely

Not enough shadowgast love confessions acknowledge the fact that both Essek and Caleb are very anxious people, and both have the power to teleport

Essek: Caleb, I’ve grown to care about you… I think I…

Caleb: -eyes wide, just as terrified of what Essek is saying as Essek is-

Essek: ….-casts teleport-

Caleb: -counterspell-

Essek: son of a bitch

Caleb: I think I have feelings like that for you as– * nope can’t do it, casts teleport*

Essek: *counterspell*

Caleb: Sheisse!

Kingsley: *watching fascinated with a bowl of popcorn* Are they always like this?

Also:

Essek: By this time you must know how much I care about you-

Caleb “my social anxiety is getting the best of me” Widogast, internally: fuck, no, I can’t deal with this right now- *casts teleport*

Essek: No you won’t! *casts conterspell*

Caleb: *counters the conterspell*

Fjord, suffering: No, we’re doing this assholes *counters the counter-counterspell*

Breaking the Boy Scout

Clips from 4-Sided Dive E13, Critical Role C3 E49, Critical Role C3 E51, and Critical Role C3 E63 showing Orym’s mental state as the events of C3 E63 unfold.

Whatever your interpretation, I think these are the key scenes and background to gauge where he’s at and what he’s thinking. Personally I think this marks a turning point in how he views this conflict, but what exactly that means remains to be seen.

orym thinking about who was taken from him “in the name of philosophy, or ideology, or whatever you want to call it” and deciding he’s going to die trying to kill the people who murdered them in cold blood, to die trying to kill the people who “didn’t care who they killed,” to die trying to kill the people who killed whoever they could if it meant they might get what they wanted

I think everyone forgets Orym was trained as a guard. He was trained to protect and take down threats. His personality might go against killing at times and if they had more time, I’m sure he would have tried to rehabilitate Bor'dor. But like he said, this is war. This is what he was trained for. He made a decision in a dire situation to help protect his people. I think he recognised Bor'dor’s pain and realised it was too late for him now, that they were doing him a service. It hurt more because this was the man he saw himself in with his story of loss. And his husband in through appearance.

Whether on not this is his breaking point, Orym been hurt more now than his has in years. Especially following the possible loss of his leader. He needs his friends, he needs some news and most importantly he needs closure.

You know what I’m thinking about? That trip to Vergessen.

Not the memorable one. The super innocuous one, in which Ludinus and Trent insisted they’d just dug this weird rock out of the ground weeks ago, it’s nothing to them, the Bright Queen can have it. The one where Eadwulf told Caleb he looked good despite having just crawled out of an eldritch horror’s sludge and then showed off his super muscular, super tatted arms.

Let’s return to Eadwulf’s arms in a moment.
